July 2025 Reminders for Australian SMEs

As of 1 July 2025, several important updates are now in effect. These changes may impact your payroll, compliance obligations, and operating costs — so it’s crucial for SMEs to stay across them.

Here’s what you need to know:

Wages & Superannuation

  • National Minimum Wage has increased by 3.5% to $947.95/week or $24.94/hour
  • Award Minimum Wages have also risen by 3.5%
  • Superannuation Guarantee has increased from 11.5% to 12% — make sure your payroll is updated accordingly

Business Software & Fees

    • Xero software fees have gone up — check your new subscription rate
    • ASIC fee changes:
      • Company registration is now $611 (up from $597)
      • Annual review fee for proprietary companies is now $329 (up from $321)

Government-Funded Parental Leave Now Includes Super

From July 2025, the ATO will start paying superannuation on government-funded Parental Leave Pay.

There’s no action required by employers, but it’s helpful to be aware of this update, especially if employees raise questions about their entitlements or payment summaries.

Skilled Visa Thresholds

If you sponsor skilled workers, be aware that income thresholds have increased:

  • Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT): $76,515 (was $73,150)
  • Core Skills Income Threshold: $76,515
  • Specialist Skills Income Threshold: $141,210 (was $135,000)

Final Tip

Now’s the time to review your payroll settings, update employee contracts if needed, and ensure your accounting software reflects the latest rates and obligations.
